Seamlessly going from one major tour to the next.
Not only good for the bank account but imagine how musically sharp these guys are. In this case, Steve Hass.http://www.stevehass.net/discus/mess...tml?1128201378

wow, then again Hass has always worked like hasn't he? I remember a few years back when I was in New York he was with Ravi Coltrane, Christian McBride and Richard Bona all in the same year. He also managed to sub for Tain every Monday night at the Zinc Bar.This is also luck related. How many times do we get called for great work all on the same night!
I remember Hass saying he had to turn down Joan Osborne for a commitment with The ManTansfer. Either way you know this guy is playing great music, and making lots of cash. I'm truly envious.
Out of all the young pros in NYC and LA he's the only one that manages to pull this off. Keith is doing clinics at the moment, and I don't even know who Ari's playing with lately. Sanchez is always with Metheny and doesn't do any sessions other than latin jazz. Who are some younger LA based drummers in this league? I want to go see them play.

Age to me doesn't mean what it does to most people. I know players in their 30s who started in their late teens and players in their 20s who started before 10. It's all about the drumming not the age. I don't give anyone extra props for being younger, or expect less from them because they are younger.
In any case, thanks sharing Ron, I've never heard of him. I will try and check him out online or something. I did hear that Kenny Garret has a hard time finding good musicians who will put up with his $500 per week salary.
I also would much rather have The Manhattan Transfer gig who's drum chair has had Gadd, Porcaro, Grady Tate, Humphrey, Brechtlein, Almond, Campbell, Abe Jr, JR Robinson, Mike Beard and more sitting in it. Than the Suicidle Tendencies. And Scofield...well, Dennis, Idris, Johnny, Jordan, Hakim, Dejohnette, Nussbaum, TerriLynn, Bill Stewart....I know what is being meant by "gigs like these". These are drummers gigs, and Hass is having them. Along with Carlock. Steely Dan, and Sting.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">I do. IMHO mental and emotional maturity affects musicianship as much as than technique or chops or musical experience.

UH huh.....that's why Tony played that way at 17. That's why Jeff Porcaro played that way at 20. That'swhy Jack Dejohnette played that way at 22. The list can longer than this board.
I know life experience has it's bearing on music somewhere, but there are no facts to this. In fact, it's quite the contrary. Most of our musical idols haven't changed that much since their humble beginnings. It all depends on how much listening practicing/ ensemble playing time you get. Some do it real young, others do it later. All in all by the time everyone's 50, the playing field is level.
